Peach and Pear Muesli Crumble Recipe: Baked Fruit Breakfast Crumble

I was craving dessert one evening and decided to make do with what I found in the cupboard. The boys’ great-grandmother often treats them to individual jars of peaches, pears and apple purée, and I had a couple of each on hand — that’s how this simple baked fruit crumble came together.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup canned pears, cubed
1/2 cup canned peaches, cubed
1/3 cup apple purée
2 tbsp custard powder
1 cup fruit & nut muesli
25 g butter, melted
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 cup shredded coconut
METHOD
  1. In a small bowl, combine the pears, peaches and custard powder, stirring until the pieces are evenly coated.
  2. Divide this fruit mixture among four ramekins, or spread it into a single small baking dish for a larger serving.
  3. Spoon the apple purée over the fruit in each ramekin so it covers the surface evenly.
  4. Melt the butter in short bursts in the microwave (about 20–30 seconds) or on the stovetop.
  5. In another bowl, mix the muesli, brown sugar and shredded coconut until well combined.
  6. Add the melted butter to the dry mixture and stir until the muesli is evenly moistened and crumbly.
  7. Scatter the crumble mixture over the fruit, pressing lightly so it holds together.
  8. If using individual ramekins, place them on a baking tray for easier handling.
  9. Bake in a preheated 180°C (350°F) oven for about 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling at the edges.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Serve warm with custard or vanilla ice cream for added indulgence.
