How To Make Sausage Skillet

Step 1: Combine Ingredients

In a small bowl whisk together ketchup, honey, soy sauce, grated ginger, your preferred hot sauce, and sesame oil. Set the glaze aside while you cook the sausage.

Step 2: Cook

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium to medium-low heat. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook, stirring frequently, until the slices are nicely browned—about 8–10 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly so the garlic doesn’t burn. Pour in the reserved honey glaze and stir until the sauce bubbles and coats the sausages. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Tips For Making This Garlic Sausage Recipe

  • Slice evenly. Cut the sausages into uniform pieces so they brown and cook consistently and look more appealing on a platter.
  • Adjust the heat. Add extra hot sauce or a pinch of red pepper flakes if you want more spice.
  • Use fresh ginger. Freshly grated ginger gives the brightest flavor; powdered ginger can be used in a pinch but won’t be as vibrant.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN THE SAUSAGE APPETIZER IS DONE?

Most smoked sausages are fully cooked when purchased, so you’re aiming to brown the slices and develop a slight crisp at the edges to enhance flavor. If using raw sausage, cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).

HOW DO YOU SERVE A SAUSAGE SKILLET?

For parties, transfer the glazed sausage to a serving platter and offer toothpicks for easy grabbing. For a meal, serve the sausages over rice with roasted vegetables or a simple side salad.

HOW DO YOU KEEP THIS WARM UNTIL READY TO SERVE?

Place the glazed sausages in a slow cooker on the warm setting to hold them at serving temperature. Stir occasionally to keep the sauce from sticking.
